'The Walking Dead' Review: A Sad Winter Finale Comes In 'The Storm'

This Season On “The Walking Dead” It’s been an oddly successful season of “The Walking Dead,” despite the many narrative stops-and-starts baked in to accommodate various “new beginnings” (both in-story and on the creative side with new showrunner Angela Kang) as well as the departure of two major characters. When your season has three time-jumps, things are clearly being shaken up, and while the initial jump forward of the premiere sought to put some distance between the (frankly, awful) Seasons 7 and 8, ... more Comments

New "Walking Dead" Spinoff In The Works, AMC Executives Confirm

Asked to elaborate on CEO Josh Sapan’s mention of a third zombie outing, COO Ed Carroll said the spinoff is in “active development.” He declined to offer many more specifics, including whether it would fall under an existing distribution agreement with Hulu. “We’re not at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere,” Carroll said. “But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series. We’re not in a position to tal... more Comments

Walking Dead Renewed for Season 10

Just six days before The Walking Dead returns with the second half of its ninth season (Sunday, 9/8c), AMC has renewed the hit series for a tenth outing. Thus far across the first half of Season 9, The Walking Dead is averaging 5.2 million total viewers and a 2.0 demo rating, down 33 and 40 percent from its Season 8 average but still leading all AMC shows (and more than doubling spinoff Fear the Walking Dead’s numbers). AMC CEO Josh Sapan hinted back in 2017 that The Walking Dead could remain on the... more Comments

'The Walking Dead' Review: Characters Continue To Grate In 'Stradivarius'

This Week On “The Walking Dead” So much of the first half of Season 9 of “The Walking Dead” has been focused on writing out Rick Grimes, leaving precious few episodes left to establish the new time-jump status quo as well as build to a satisfying cliffhanger for the mid-season break. Instead of maximizing that time, “The Walking Dead” has shifted back to auto-pilot, meandering around with very little drive until the November finale. The creative surge the show displ... more Comments

Ratings: Walking Dead Ticks (Slightly) Up With Andrew Lincoln's 'Farewell'

Andrew Lincoln’s Walking Dead sorta-sendoff moved the ratings needle for AMC, albeit minimally. Sunday’s episode drew 5.4 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating — up just 6 percent vs. the previous week (2.0 mil, 2.0 demo). After show Talking Dead, featuring an exclusive interview with Lincoln, enjoyed a more sizable uptick. The Chris Hardwick talker attracted nearly doubled its demo rating week-over-week, nothing a 1.0 vs. last Sunday’s 0.6 (a 66 p... more Comments

The Walking Dead Season 9 Premiere Recap: Friends, Foes and the Fine Line Between 'Em — Plus, [Spoiler] Dies

‘I DON’T LIKE SPIDERS’ | As the episode began, we were treated to glimpses of not only how much Alexandria had been rebuilt in the 18-month time jump that followed the Season 8 finale but also the happy home life that Rick and Michonne had established with Judith. (Adorably, the moppet insisted on painting her dad with a grumpy face and big tummy in her extended-family portrait.) Before most of our regulars convened for the aforementioned field trip to D.C., we also got a peek at the goi... more Comments

Did 'The Walking Dead' Season 8 Finale Tease the Season 9 Villains?

The season 8 finale of The Walking Dead marked the end of the bloodshed between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan.) As Carl's vision seemingly comes to fruition, it looks like better days are ahead for Rick and his crew. However, there also seems to be another big threat around the corner. In "Wrath," there appears to be a big tease about The Walking Dead's next big villain as Ric... more Comments

Will Maggie Cause More Trouble on 'The Walking Dead'?

In the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead, Rick decides not to kill Negan. Maggie believes he should have, and Negan has to die. She, Jesus and Daryl want to bide their time until they will "show" Rick why he was wrong. I think this will spell trouble for the Maggie in the future. Evidence of Civilization Rick and Michonne tell an injured Negan in "Wrath" that he will be evidence of civilization. They will keep him locked away in a jail cell to rot in the hope that the future will change for the better.... more Comments

'The Walking Dead' Can't Redeem Eugene, And It Should Stop Trying

As The Walking Dead season 8 hurdles towards its endgame, one thing is very clear. Eugene is the absolute worst.  It's always been difficult to root for Eugene. His unique speech pattern is off-putting and the only character more cowardly than Eugene is King of the Wimps, Gregory. The more Eugene has survived, the less likable he's become. Throughout his aggravating journey, The Walking Dead ha... more Comments

Is Peace Even Possible on 'The Walking Dead'?

In "Worth," we learn what Carl wrote in the letters to Negan and Rick. And in both of them, he talks about peace. He wants his father to offer peace to Negan, and he urges Negan to accept that peace offering. But is peace really achievable at this point on The Walking Dead, when both Rick and Negan want to kill each other? An Eye for a Eye Negan's philosophy has always been that he saves people. Those he kills often get in the way, or they've betrayed him. Or the deaths are used as leverage to ge... more Comments
