  • Today Will Be Different

    Today Will Be Different

AHHHH! OMG! WHATT!! YOU GUYSSSSSS! The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 2 was the best, happiest, craziest episode of The Vampire Diaries we've had in a long, long time. LONG TIME!

And it was sad and scary and even more sad, but mostly really freaking amazing.

I'm now firmly Team Steroline. FOREVER.

STEFAN AND CAROLINE ARE ENGAGED!!!!!!111!! Engaged. Legit planning a wedding engaged to be married for literally ever and ever since they're vampires and they can't really die.

That proposal was beautiful and perfect and I LOVE LOVE.

I will probably begin some sort of crazy mail-in campaign if the writers attempt to undo or mess with this happiness as the season continues, particularly if it seems like they're not going to right the ship before the series ends. For ONCE let a couple be happy and why not Steroline?

Bonnie and Enzo are in a very dangerous place right now, what with Sybil finally discoveri...

  • You Decided That I Was Worth Saving

You Decided That I Was Worth Saving

Sybil is still super out there as far as villains go, but the end of The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 3 shows there's way more in store for her than we first imagined and I'm ready to find out what that is.

I mean, I don't want to rush through the final season or anything, but the storytelling is tight and the stakes (ha!) are feeling higher than ever right now.

It's really sad/frustrating to me that it's taken The Vampire Diaries until its final season for me to feel the gravitas of these characters' lives again. I was totally on board with Elena's indecision over whether she could be with a vampire and then which vampire she wanted to be with.

And then something fell apart. Slowly, it feels like things have been glued back together.

Tonight's Bonnie-has-to-choose plot was devastating, even though it was clear from the jump that she should and would choose Enzo.

Bonnie is the often dumped-upon character. As Damon...

  • An Eternity of Misery

    An Eternity of Misery

As far as episodes this season go, The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 4 was a slower one full of narrative and filling in the blanks. I'm still developing my feelings on the episode and plan to just have a little catharsis here in my review, but first thing's first.

SELINE IS AN EVIL SIREN! I knew I was getting serious Nanny Carrie vibes from her, you guys! I KNEW IT.

I knew, I knew, I KNEW there was something not right with Seline. She was too perfect, so something had to be wrong with her. That she is an evil psychic temptress cannibal I didn't exactly expect, but hey, my villain radar wasn't wrong.

What she needs or wants with the twins I still have no idea, but it's not just a coincidence Seline is nannying for the family intimately enmeshed with her capture and release from the Armory cave. She didn't just happen to find the last remaining set of Gemini twins on Earth whose father also hap...

  • Coming Home Was a Mistake

    Coming Home Was a Mistake

It wasn't exactly a happy homecoming for Matt Donovan on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 5, but his return to Mystic Falls did help crack the case of the missing second Siren.

Nanny Seline is evil incarnate and she has the last remaining set of Gemini twins on Earth.

Her plans for them include creating a brand new nuclear family with Cade, aka the Devil himself, as their new daddy.

Y'all, Nanny Seline is B-A-D. Bad. She used two unsuspecting girls (who shouldn't be quite as old as they seem given the timeline) to RESURRECT THE DEVIL.

Like. Not bring back a grandma from a spirit world. Not commune with a spirit on the other side.

She straight up brought back Satan using two innocent girls and the body of a dead graduate student to do it. Also a dead goldfish.

Was the goldfish involved in that ritual? I couldn't tell. I was too busy clutching my pearls at our precious Gemini twins being lured into doing ...

  • Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell

Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell

It was pretty much a given that no harm would come to Lizzie and Josie on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 6. We all knew they would be returned to their parents safely because that's just what happens on this series. (And what should have happened, IMO.)

While some shows will go there with the injured children storyline, it's a pretty safe bet that The Powers That Be at TVD aren't that kind. (Looking at you, The Walking Dead.)

But will TVD get halfway through its final season and flip everything we've come to know and love on its head? You bet.

Seline had a plan with the twins which astute individuals could've seen coming a mile away: trade the twins for her own soul and Sybil's. Unfortunately for Damon, Seline's plan required another ten years of serving Cade and Damon Salvatore is nothing if not extremely, amazingly impatient.

So he brokered a deal of his own: his soul, and Stefan's, in exchange for Sybil'...

  • The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You

The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You

The holidays (and The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 7) remind me that there are two kinds of people in this world.

People who like eggnog and people who don't.

Damon Salvatore? Doesn't like eggnog, which once again reminded me, in an ever so subtle way, why I joined Team Damon so long ago.

Let's be clear. I'm not on the Team Damon the Soul Stealer and Right Hand Man of Satan team. But I do have renewed hope for the Team Damon the Guy Who Loved the Girl team, of which I am most definitely still a member.

For the past season and a half, I've been annoyed by the constant references to Elena.

They always take me out of the moment making Elena a bigger part of the show than she is while she's in a coma, particularly when there are so many other breathing, talking characte...

  • We Have History Together

    We Have History Together

As far as mid-season returns go, The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 8 felt a little slow. Not unimportant to the overall story of our final season, but slow.

Contrasted with the episode Paul Wesley directed, wherein Stefan sold his soul to Cade in exchange for Caroline's daughters, this Ian Somerhalder directed episode was a little more filler and a lot less thriller.

Maybe that's necessary from time to time. In a typical, full-order season, it wouldn't be uncommon to have a few episodes that don't shine quite as brightly as their counterparts.

Sure, there's new information by way of Matt's family history, but even that feels forced so that a connection between the Sirens and Mystic Falls can be made. Now the Maxwells are the original Founding Family (when the Mikaelsons were already the original OriginalRead more ››

  • The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch

The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch

Cocky Ripper Douche Stefan continued his reign of terror on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 9, this time turning his sarcastic truths toward Caroline and zeroing in even more closely on Damon.

He's pretty unlikable at the moment, and I can't decide if I want him redeemed by the series end or if the final run should leave him in this bloodthirsty, Cade-serving state.

An argument can be made for either side, really.

On the one hand, fans who want to see Steroline reunited with the promise of a happily ever after are probably clamoring for Stefan to come to his senses.

On the other hand, we've done this Ripper song and dance so many times and he's SO over the top mean this time that he shouldn't get a pass for the things he said while he was high on blood.

Seriously. He doesn't get a pass for the horrible things he's saying to the people who care about him just because his humanity switch is off...

  • Nostalgia's a Bitch

    Nostalgia's a Bitch

Woah! Where did that come from?

On The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 10, we got to go deep into Damon Salvatore's mind to uncover what was really going on for him and it was fantastic.

Previously, episodes which have featured the return of deceased characters have been pretty dull, but there was just something about this particular episode that got everything so right.

Damon knew very well that some of his actions were horrible. That's why he wanted his mind to be free of the supernatural creatures. It was surprising that Stefan's humanity was not switched on after witnessing Damon's pain.

Clearly, Damon blamed Stefan for enticing him to drink the blood all those years ago. Had Stefan just let him die, he would never have become the person that would kill people without questioning it.

The scene between Damon and Bonnie was heartbreaking, but so great at the same time. These two were once sworn enemies. If you wa...

  • You Made a Choice to Be Good

You Made a Choice to Be Good

    Poor Bonnie and Enzo.

On The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 11 the couple most deserving of a happy ending had that robbed from them.

    It was downright heartbreaking.

Throughout the last eight seasons, Bonnie has practically put her life on hold to do whatever she could to save her friends from whatever evil was lurking in the shadows.

Everyone who gets close to her seems to die, and sadly, Enzo suffered a horrible death that served as one of the most upsetting of the entire series.

Taking the cure would have been a beautiful move for Enzo. Seriously, Bonnie and Enzo did not owe their friends anything. They've been through so much that the mere thought of a happy ending for them was the least the writers could give them.

Yes, Stefan was under strict orders from Cade, but much like Damon, I don't think he's redeemable. How many people are going to have to die before the series is over?
