Well, we finally had an episode that didn't begin with someone watching an old episode of The Grinder.

Instead, The Grinder Season 1 Episode 9 started out with the family watching a new episode of The Grinder: New Orleans.

Timothy Olyphant returned playing himself as the star of the new spin-off series, but how did he do in Dean's role?

Of course, Dean's family and friends were quick to assure him that the original show was by far superior, adding that Timothy was less attractive for good measure.

Stewart had a harder time with the comforting words, but gave it a solid effort.

Claire didn't even attempt to hide her feelings about Timothy and the new show. After spending so much time refuting Dean's efforts, she had no problem jumping into bed with Timothy.

It definitely looked like it was going in the direction of a one night stand, however. Claire clearly had no real interest in him other than physical attraction. <...

Dean tries his hand at living a normal, non-celebrity life on The Grinder Season 1 Episode 7, but it did not last long.

My guess is no one is surprised by that. I'm actually a little surprised he made it as long a he did.

The real surprise is that Stewart learned to embrace his brother's status, as well.

There's definitely nothing wrong with that. I mean, seriously Stewart, you have to deal with your brother in your house and at your work, you might as well benefit from it when you can.

I loved Claire's advice to trick Dean into helping him get his car back. That was a pretty smart move on Stewart's part. Granted, it backfired and landed them in jail, but the thought was good. The execution could use a little work.

Speaking of the jail, shouldn't that be the one place where Stewart possess the get out of jail free card? He's a lawyer, it's a small town, you'd think between him and his dad they'd know every judge in town. He s...

Dean is looking for love on The Grinder Season 1 Episode 5, but does he find it?

Stewart's idea to set him up with someone who knew him before he was famous is a good one, but sadly in the end it doesn't work out.

Christina Applegate's guest appearance as Dean's ex was great. Too bad she won't be sticking around a little longer.

It's not surprising that Dean would have a hard time finding someone who liked him for who he is in Idaho. If he were still in California, he'd at least have the option of dating other famous people if that's what he wanted. In Idaho, this is something that will probably always be in the back of his mind.

He doesn't necessarily need to find someone who doesn't know he's famous though. He just needs to find someone who is honest with him. Gale's mistake was lying right from the start.

Not only that, but she took the lie too far. Lies are more believable when they're simple. You can say you've never seen...

How great was it to see Stewart and Dean work together to stand up for Ethan?

These brothers rarely see eye to eye, but by the end of The Grinder Season 1 Episode 6, they finally did.

Stewart had a tough time finding the line between encouraging his son to follow his own dreams while also wanting to share his with him.

It's an understandable dilemma. Kids look up to their parents and it's not hard for them to get excited in the things they enjoy. But, now Ethan has his uncle's influences around too, and that is proving difficult for Stewart.

Stewart wants what's best for Ethan, and after watching his audition, he couldn't deny that Ethan had acting chops like his uncle.

I loved Stewart's excitement when he told his family all about sneaking around in the wings. Lizzie telling him it was like he worked his whole life for that moment was priceless. Stewart was just so giddy!

Dean is not the type to let anything go. Somet...

It was Stewart's skepticism versus Deb's optimism on The Grinder Season 1 Episode 4. Which one won?

As much as I'd hoped Deb was right about their new friends, Stewart's intuition that they were only using them to get close to Dean was absolutely correct.

That really stinks for Stewart, but he did get to meet a judge, so maybe it's time for him to follow his kids' footsteps and start using this to his advantage.

It was hard not to laugh at just how atrocious Lizzie is at basketball. I can't believe a coach would actually let her play just because Dean agreed to go to all of her games, but then again, some schools will do just about anything to sell tickets.

Ethan didn't seem to have a problem using his famous uncle to impress girls.

Now Stewart can be friends with a judge who is clearly impressed that he is Dean's brother. You never know when that could work to your advantage, Stewart. We saw how well having a judge who's a Gr...

Are there really no such thing as good lies?

That's debatable, but The Grinder Season 1 Episode 3 focuses more on the bad ones.

Dean has a hard time admitting he was wrong, even when he knows for a fact that he is. Why can't he own up to his mistakes?

Nobody likes someone who has to be right all the time. It's hard to imagine what growing up with him must have been like for Stewart, but the show is gradually painting a picture of it for us.

Did anyone else think that they were going to reveal that neither Dean nor Stewart broke the window? Part of me wondered if their dad actually did it, and another part of me wondered if it was someone else entirely such as a neighbor.

By the end though it became clearer that it was actually Dean, and it was nice to see him confess. Hooray for character development!

Of course, it was really just a baby step in that he could only admit he was wrong about the name of the mole and insi...

    But, what if it wasn't?

Is that the perfect argument? It seemed to work pretty well. That is, until it didn't.

The Grinder Season 1 Episode 2 introduced a new character, Claire, and she's already made an impact on Dean, who apparently hasn't met anyone who doesn't like his show somehow.

Claire is awesome. It was obvious from the moment we met her she'd end up working with them, but I'm still excited about it. Dean needs someone to challenge him besides his brother. Plus she's really funny. I just hope they don't end up hooking up any time soon.

The first scene was a funny way to parallel the real show and the fake one as they discussed the importance of following up a great pilot with a successful second episode. The question is, did they manage it?

I thought they did a pretty good job, though I admit I still liked the pilot better. It was good enough that I don't think they have to worry about losing too much of their audience...
