The Fickle Lady is Calling it Quits

Has Frank Gallagher taken his last breath?

If Shameless Season 11 Episode 11 was any indication, then the man who didn't raise any of his kids took his fate into his own hands and ended his life.

It's hard not to feel a little bit emotional about it. He's been a horrible man, but the family decided to take him for who he is somewhere along the way.

Even Lip had a surprise chat with him that hit me right in the feels. We knew it was coming, but him injecting both doses of heroin into himself to end his life was tragic.

If you watch Shameless online, you know he's been struggling with alcohol-fueled dementia. He's been crafty as ever, but he had no clue what he was doing half the time, causing him a lot of confusion.

He also got "DNR" tattooed across his chest, meaning that there's a good chance any EMT will not even attempt to revive him.

My concern with this final storyline for Frank is the throwaway li...

Where has this level of storytelling been all season?

After Shameless Season 11 Episode 10, it's clear all of the storylines are concluding, leaving us with many possibilities as we head toward the series finale.

It's not the easiest hour to unpack due to all of the different directions the characters' storylines are going, but at least we finally have a direction.

If you've been reading my reviews this season, you already know it was inevitable Kev and V would decide to move to Kentucky.

They may be South Side through and through, but the city of Chicago has hardly been good to them. They've constantly been on the breadline, despite having multiple businesses, so it was more or less an easy decision for them.

Kev made a killing by stepping in to help the struggling restaurant. He's always had the gift of great chatter, even if it's somewhat empty. Making more in tips from one shift than his own bar makes in a week make...

Will Shameless go out with a whimper?

If Shameless Season 11 Episode 9 is any indication, then yes.

While "Survivors" started moving some of the plots along toward a conclusion, there was too much filler that made it difficult to care about any of the events.

Did we really need to follow V's mother to Kentucky? Carol has never been a big part of the series, disappearing shortly after realizing she wanted to keep the kid she was supposed to birth for her daughter.

The series desperately tries to make us believe that V fell out of her mother's life shortly after that, but we need to remember that V is raising two children of her own while simultaneously running a bar.

Carol's comments about no one visiting her were a bit rude when you consider that she could have called V or even went into the bar for a coffee and a catchup.

Moving to Kentucky seemed excessive, but I'm starting to get the feeling V will r...

Saying goodbye to the Gallaghers is getting easier by the episode.

Shameless Season 11 Episode 8 was another woeful installment filled with bizarre storytelling, needless twists, and unfunny jokes.

We'll start with Terry dying at the hands of a nun. If you watch Shameless online, you know he's a hate-spewing drunk, but did we really need to see him after being suffocated?

He was truly horrible, but the death scene was too ridiculous to believe, and I'm not excited about how this development will shape Mickey's final arc.

Despite his father trashing him every day of his life, Mickey has been surprisingly open about wanting him to have the best care.

That's why he's going to meltdown in the coming episodes as he reacts to the surprising nature of the death, and I bet it will drive another wedge between him and Ian.

Ian didn't give a crap about Terry, and rightfully so. But Mickey is always going to rememb...

Two at a Biker Bar, One in the Lake

There comes the point in every family in which you need to leave the nest and grow up.

Shameless Season 11 Episode 7 found the siblings fighting over the future of the Gallagher house, and, as expected, Debbie dug her heels into the ground and refused to agree to sell the house.

As a character, Debbie has never been consistently written, but this version who wants to preserve the place she grew up and still have her family around felt like a fulfilling arc for her.

While everyone else is embracing change, she's very set in her ways and doesn't see herself living in a dwelling that doesn't include the bustle of the Gallagher house.

If you watch Shameless online, you know the home has had quite the revolving door of occupants throughout the run of the series, but the building has been in a state of disrepair for years.

It's an accident waiting to happen and is holding everyone else back. Debbie has tried to fix many issue...

Shameless is going the predictable route in its final season, and it's hardly surprising.

The series has been running on fumes for years. After another hiatus, Shameless Season 11 Episode 5 gave us only subtle hints about what to expect throughout the rest of Shameless Season 11.

It was inevitable the battle against the Milkoviches would end in disaster, and Liam shooting a bullet into the sky only for it to come back down and hit Terry was ridiculous.

Was it deserved? Yes. Terry has been an evil figure on the series since the beginning, spewing hate and bigotry everywhere he walked.

The only good thing about the storyline is that it will probably send the rest of the family running for the hills because they will believe they're marked for death.

Then again, Liam yelled as he shot the gun so that he could come back to bite him if another neighbor hears about it. Carl was adamant that killing a Milkovich would not...

Is it just me, or was that one of the worst episodes of the series to date?

Shameless Season 11 Episode 4 featured a string of storylines that should have been exciting, but they were bogged down by terrible execution and even worse dialogue.

We'll start with the Milkoviches moving next door. If you watch Shameless online, you know they are one of the worst families on TV, so Terry having sex with a 90-year-old to take over her house should not have been surprising.

But the Milkoviches living next door could be a great storyline had it not been hindered by the tasteless jokes about racism.

In the UK iteration of the series, the Milkoviches were known as the Maguires. They had a much bigger presence, which appears to be an attempt at replicating the success of the original iteration of the series.

Unfortunately, it's too late in the series's run to try to make viewers get on board with any of their storylines. Mickey an...

Is there really such a thing as marital bliss?

If we're to believe Shameless Season 11 Episode 3, then probably not.

Ian and Mickey have had some questionable storylines, but now that they're married, they struggle to navigate the new normal for them.

Bickering about their roles in the bedroom based on who brought the most money into the home was not surprising.

They're petty like that, but punching lumps out of each other in the Alibi Room was yet another sign that this relationship is as unhealthy as they come.

This direction is not a bad one, storytelling wise, and the progression for them at the end made it all worthwhile.

V stepping in to read them the riot act felt like something Fiona would have done if the show actually acknowledged she still existed.

But V is very close to the Gallaghers, and, by extension, Mickey.

    Frank: Sell that for $7.
    V: A little e...

    Go Home, Gentrifier!

That was a nice change of pace.

COVID-19 took a back seat on Shameless Season 11 Episode 2, and it paved the way for an enjoyable hour of this Showtime drama series.

Yes, the pandemic is still very present in the characters' lives, but it didn't feel as in your face as Shameless Season 11 Episode 1.

Mickey's full-time return on Shameless Season 10 failed to result in meaningful plots for Noel Fisher's character, aside from getting married.

"Go Home, Gentrifier" was vintage Mickey Milkovich, and it took me back to the earlier days of the series. Despite trying to get a job, Mickey is not cut out for a legit life.

Ian may be happy with his minimum wage position because it makes him feel like an adult with purpose, but he and Mickey are not cut from the same cloth.

We've witnessed them cheat on each other in the past and question whether to have an open marriage, so Ian threatening to take sex out of the e...

Fiona Gallagher has left her family behind and is starting a new journey of her own.

Shameless Season 9 Episode 14 gave Fiona the perfect opportunity to move on with her life, well away from the South Side.

It was an ambiguous exit, for sure, but it was true to the character. If you watch Shameless online, you know that Fiona has been happy multiple times, but it's always temporary.

Things get in the way, she falls off the rails, and when she falls, she falls hard. Having the $100k gave her a once in a lifetime opportunity, and she needed to utilize it in the best way she could.

"Found" chronicled Fiona's sudden realization that her family has grown up to the point that they don't rely on her as much as they once did.

For all of her life up to this point, she's had to go through the motions of looking after her siblings, providing for them, and even sacrificing some of the things she wants to do.
