    Rolling Dark

On SEAL Team Season 1 Episode 9 Bravo Team's latest mission involved locating a Russian scientist and his wife whose plane crashed in China as they were attempting to defect.

Meanwhile, Clay attempted to adjust to his role as the newest member of the team.

The Russian guy's wife was really pissed off at him when she found out he had been working for the CIA. She seemed like she would rather stay in Russia and would have continued to scream at him for the entire flight if the lightning hadn't hit the plane.

Stella did a good job trying to be supportive and calm Clay down as he prepared for his first day with Bravo Team.

    Happy first day of school.

Clay Gets an 'Easy' First Mission Clay is officially a member of Bravo Team after completing training. This episode of SEAL Team, titled "Rolling Dark," involves his first day on the job. Stella later remarks that it turned into a first week on the job, after what was supposed to be an easy rescue mission turns into something much more complicated. However, he does start to find a home within the team and gains good advice from certain members.
    The Mission for the Week
The SEALs are called into China when the plane of Dmitri, a Russian doctor who has defected to the United States, crashes in a storm. The man has information useful to the CIA, so the Americans are doing everything possible to get him to the United States safely. Meanwhile, the Russians have moved in to execute him.
It doesn't take too long for the SEALs to find his downed plane, but the Russians have beaten them there first. Jason realizes that the Russians are an Alpha Group, the equivalent of a Bravo Team. That means they ...

    The Exchange

In SEAL Team Season 1 Episode 8, Bravo Team got involved in a prisoner swap with the Taliban, while Clay went apartment hunting with Stella as he waited to find out which team chose him in the Green Team draft.

After being called to the briefing room, the SEALs discovered that their next mission is to transport three Taliban detainees to Afghanistan, where they will exchange them for Army private Lucas Garner, who has been held by the Taliban since deserting his unit in 2014.

The team members were not exactly happy with this news. Sonny, never shy about expressing his opinions, voiced his disdain for Garner and worried that the Taliban might be planning an ambush.

Mandy explained that the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency, brokered the deal. The ISI wanted the Pakistani military kept out of the loop because too many Taliban sleepers were embedded there.

Jason and the team were skeptical that the ISI could be counted on, and Ray...

    Clay Moves Into New Digs
Clay's storyline for the night focused on moving into new digs. Now he is out of training, he needs to find a new apartment. Luckily, there are people working closely with the SEALs and it doesn't take long to find somewhere he likes.
While Stella helps him move in, they meet Clay's new neighbor across the hall. It's another SEAL, who was injured by an RPG (type of grenade) seven years earlier. The SEAL's wife tells Stella about the difficult recovery time and how the SEAL is now thankfully on the mend. Stella starts to get doubts about her relationship with Clay.

    The SEALs Go to Brazil
The SEALs are called into a mission in Brazil to work with the Brazilian authorties. The woman kidnapped is a member of the CIA. A Training Jump Goes Wrong Jason and his team are sent to South Sudan in the latest episode of SEAL Team, titled "Collapse." They need to offer the American Embassy support, as protestors gather and make it clear they want the Americans out. However, they have a problem when the acting ambassador is unwilling to evacuate. Meanwhile, Clay continues his training in hopes of becoming a Tier 1 Operative.
Jason Continues to Dig Into Nate's Life
Jason finds a way to get a reminder of who the woman is in the photos. Sonny was on the same mission and has no idea about the burner phone, so he won't ask too many questions. The woman was the wife of their interpreter at the time, but the interpreter was killed by the Taliban. Sonny believes that the woman was too.
While he absorbs that information, Jason goes to Nate's cage (his storage space on base) to clear it out. There's a letter waiting for him. It's from Nate, simply stating to burn everything now that he's dead. However, Jason spots fak...

Here we go again! Let's see whether the latest installment passes muster.

The good news? SEAL Team Season 1 Episode 5 is probably the most technically adept and exciting of the show yet.

That said, I have some reservations. First, I hope it is never seen in the South Sudan. They have enough issues without seeing themselves portrayed as bogeymen.

Secondly, I hope no member of the state department ever sees this episode because the gleeful insults it hurls at diplomats are over the line.

Yes, I get that Acting Ambassador Crowley, the comically obnoxious and inept villain, is not supposed to represent all diplomats, but that's like saying Walter Peck in Ghostbusters isn't supposed to represent all EPA workers. Cold comfort.

    Ghosts of Christmas Future

SEAL Team is probably the weakest of the fall’s many military shows, but in fairness to everyone involved, the creators are clearly aware of its weaknesses.

Every episode since SEAL Team Season 1 Episode 1 has ticked off a few “problem boxes” in an attempt to right the ship.

SEAL Team Season 1 Episode 4 is no exception. I can envision some CBS network suit sending the following notes:

    • The leading lady, Jessica Pare, has nothing to do but spout expository dialogue.
    • There aren’t enough sex scenes with David Boreanaz.
    • Hiring a bunch of super handsome actors and then covering their bodies and faces with equipment every weak undermines the whole handsome thing.
