Charley Bordelon was riding a high on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 12.

Her mill was in ruins and the police were looking at her and her family as arson suspects, the corrupt local government was trying to make it impossible to win the election, and she hadn't heard from her boyfriend since he walked out the door.

    But none of that mattered.

Because Micah was going to Harvard.

There's little doubt that Charley has had this dream since her son was born. She's worked and fought to give him every opportunity in this life.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 11 Review: I'm Sorry

The congratulations card she gave him said, "go confidently in the direction of your dreams."

Unfortunately, for Charley, Harvard isn't one of Micah's dreams.

What's so heart wrenching is that it's easy to see both points of view.

    Micah's decided his f...

    I'm Sorry

There were lots of characters professing they were sorry on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 11, but one was the most heartfelt and heartbreaking.

It was Ralph Angel breaking up with Deesha.

As much as I've enjoyed Deesha, and I love how she accepts and respects Ralph Angel, I've always questioned how long this relationship was going to last.

When Ralph Angel slipped out of bed to talk to Darla on the phone after making love to Deesha for the first time, that was the beginning of the end.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 10 Review: Oh Mamere

Ralph Angel not only ran to Darla after her relapse, but he broke off his date with Deesha to do so and then didn't see her again until their kids had a play date.

It was clear at that point that this romance was on seriously shaky ground.

Ralph Angel: Look, Deesha, you are an amazing woman...

    Oh Mamere

Queen Sugar has handled many serious issues including addiction, racism, police brutality, and domestic violence.

On Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 10 the plot revolved around Darla being sexually assaulted.

No, it didn't happen on screen or even within the timeline of this installment but that didn't make it any less powerful.

We already knew that Darla was an addict. When she first appeared on Queen Sugar Season 1 Episode 1 she was trying to convince Ralph Angel that she was no longer using and begging him for a chance to see her son again.

The details surrounding Blue's conception were sketchy at best. It took years for Darla to admit to Ralph Angel that he might not be Blue's biological father.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 9 Review: Stare at the Same Fires

    Stare at the Same Fires

Everyone gets knocked down eventually and it was Charley's turn on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 9.

It was difficult to blame Charley for going on a bender; her sister wrote a best-selling tell-all novel that trashed her. Her enemies set the mill she's worked so hard to make a success, on fire.

And in the middle of it all, the guy she was really starting to fall for broke up with her.

Would Charley have found her way back to her feet again on her own? Yes, because the woman has an inner strength that doesn't understand how to quit, but that doesn't mean the hand up wasn't appreciated.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 8 Review: All The Borders

As Violet told Prosper in this Queen Sugar quote, the Bordelon family has been through a rough spell:

Prosper: You get knocked down, you get back up.
Violet: Yeah, well, this was one hell of a knockdown...

Keep your enemies close may be good strategy but it can be difficult to pull off when they burn down your house, or in the case of Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 8, your mill.

Charley Bordelon has gotten knocked down more times than I can recall, but to her credit, she never fails to get back up.

This time, someone set the Queen Sugar mill on fire, putting it out of business for the foreseeable future.

Although no one was willing to take direct credit for the arson, there was no shortage of possible suspects, with Francis Boudreaux at the top of that list.

Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 7 Review: Of Several Centuries

The old woman's perfect makeup and polite but phony smile have always barely hidden her disdain for Charley, but this time, the truth came spewing forward.

Francis: I don’t know who burned your mill because I did not burn your mil...

Nova was having one the best days she’s had in months on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 7.

Many fans had been hoping for Calvin’s return. He was one of Nova’s most intense love interests, and one of the most complicated.

His reemergence certainly put a smile on Nova’s face and a hopeful spark in her eyes that hasn’t been there in a long time.

Nova didn't look like that with Octavia, nor with Chantal, not with Remy, or even Robert.

It’s not every day the love of a man’s life writes a book and then tells the world he’s the love of hers.

Charley Bordelon began her campaign for a seat on the city council with her family beside her and a brick thrown at her on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 6.

Something tells me that the brick will be the least of the challenges she'll face during fight.

As Romero pointed out in this Queen Sugar quote, there's no doubt that this campaign will be a battle.

Romero: Are you sure you want to do this? I know you’ve thought this through but the Landry-Boudreaux family, I mean, they’re a lot.
Charley: I’m a lot. Whatever I have to do, whoever I need to talk to, I’ll do for St. Jo and for my Daddy. I can’t lose his land.

Nova continued to dive into dark corners and share them with the world on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 4 all while expecting her family would magically come to terms with it and forgive her.

Nova doesn't seem to understand the damage she's done and what the continued consequences of her book might be in the future.

But it might be starting to sink in that her family isn't just going to wake up one morning and tell her everything is all right, at least not any time soon.

And this new story about Ernest isn't going to help.

Admittedly, at least this one is sort of Nova's story. It's about what she witnessed as a child.

Where My Body Stops or Begins

Violet Bordelon's day went from bad to worse to downright frightening on Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 3.

Nova claimed Aunt Vi was one of the strongest women she's ever known, but it looked like she was actively trying to test Vi's limits with this novel.

Nova: I never meant for things to come to this.
    Hollywood: Yeah, you never do.

    • Permalink: Yeah, you never do.

Thank goodness Vi has Hollywood there to stand by her through this.

Because it's clear that Jimmy Dale didn't drive all the way to St. Josephine to check out Violet's new diner, say hello, and make amends.

When Nova tracked down Jimmy Dale to get his side of the story, she poked the hornet's nest and unfortunately, it's Violet who is the one getting stung.

Jimmy was all smiles and charm until he realized he wasn't goi...

    I No Longer Imagine

As Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 2 dove into the difficult subjects of racism and rape culture, it did so with such compelling family drama that we couldn't look away even if we wanted to.

Because this is about how the Bordelon family relates to one another and the world around them, and it's frequently messy and uncomfortable.

Especially with Nova putting every personal, painful detail out there for perfect strangers to read and judge through their own lens.

What was most shocking was that Nova was so naive, or willfully blind, to what she's about to put her family through.

Nova: This story is going to help so many people.
Ralph Angel: I don’t give a damn about so many people, Nova! And my life ain’t no story. I care about my son.
