    Power of Four

The Battle of Winterfell may be upon us, but Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 19 was all about the battle for the Source; delivering just as much murder, melodrama and mischief as Game Of Thrones ever could.

I’ve never been so impressed by an episode of this show. Charmed (2018) may have steadily increased in quality over the second half of it’s season, but this is the first time it felt like watching an installment of the original.

Oh, how the tables have turned.

It took some time to get here, but the Charmed Ones finally claimed their power.

What an epic display of women power it was.

There is a lot to dissect from Charmed(2018) Season 1 Episode 18, as the show will seemingly never break it’s habit of cramming as much content as possible into a single episode. Luckily, most of that content was worth the watch.

    Most of it.

There were a lot of returning guests in “The Replacement,” but unfortunately most of their appearances felt relatively pointless to the episode.

It's official: you have blonde hair, blue eyes, or are extremely attractive, you are not to be trusted.

That's what Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 17 taught us at least.

Because on Charmed, the more devilishly handsome you are, the bigger the chance you have at, well, being the actual devil.

Taking a break from playing Alex Manes on Roswell, New Mexico Season 1, Tyler J. Blackburn skipped over to the land of witches and demons for a while. Except unlike his character on Roswell, Blackburn was anything but the good guy of the bunch.

In fact, he was about as bad as they come on a series like Charmed.

It was a jarring juxtaposition for Blackburn, who has historically played the typical golden boy for most of his career. So much so, I was wary of his ability to pull off a purely evil character.

My worrying was fruitless, as Blackburn nailed the role...

    That escalated quickly.

The drama was at an all-time high in Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 16, and we’re still recovering from the whiplash we got while trying to keep up.

“Memento Mori” was the darkest episode Charmed has done and provided its audience with plenty of answers.

It also gave Madeleine Mantock a chance to prove how spectacular of an actress she is.

The biggest mystery of the season has officially gotten solved. We didn’t just learn who killed Marisol; we learned how what and why, too.

It was a lot of information to take in, and although Charity murdering the Vera matriarch was a surprising twist, her motives seemed flimsy.

Is the audience meant to believe Charity when she claims to have acted in good conscience?

    That’s hard to accept, con...

    Switches & Stones

This episode featured a progressively modern take on an age-old legend, the perfect story fit for a series like Charmed.

Although less nuanced than it’s previous few installments, Charmed Season 1 Episode 15 continued to highlight what the series creators promised to deliver: unbridled and unapologetic feminism.

This time, it got showcased through the legend of Medusa. Reminding their demographic you can’t always believe what you hear in school, Charmed writers shined a light on the misogynistic roots of Medusa’s tale.

Was she a monster with snakes for hair who turned people into stone? Yes, she was.  That's the "what" of the story. However, thanks to societies insatiable thirst for narratives revolving around dangerous female seduction, history tends to leave out the "why" of it all.

Medusa only turned into a monster after Greek God Posiden repeatedly raped her. She was then essentially slut-shamed by Goddess ...

Careful with that killer highlighter, ladies and gents! One swipe too many and you could wind up a manic pixie murderer, too!

If we're honest (and we are), after watching the trailer for Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 13, I expected to walk away from this episode rolling my eyes and muttering under my breath about the manic pixie dream girl trope getting used as an overabundant plot device in today’s media.

I kind of expected to be angry. How dare they? What kind of self-proclaimed feminist show centers an entire installment around a character habitually rooted in misogyny?

A very clever one, that’s what.

There has been a sizeable amount of controversy surrounding the manic pixie dream girl. It used to revolve around the use of female characters getting used as props for the wish fulfillment of men’s desires.

A flatly written female whole only use was to elevate the brooding (and let’s be honest--so, Read more ››

    You're Dead To Me

Well fellow Fanatics, first things first: It’s time to celebrate the good news!

The Charmed Ones are officially coming back for a second season, and they commemorated the occasion by returning with a brand new (and slightly darker) episode.

Charmed 2018 Season 1 Episode 12 provided with many long-awaited answers while leaving us with a few newly found questions, as well.

The forefront of the episode revolved around revealing the context behind Macy's innate darkness. And although it was gratifying to see that darkness displayed as an active facet of her personality, the backstory of what originally made her that way felt somewhat underwhelming.

Traveling back 20 years in the past and allowing the audience to witness what happened to Macy as a baby was fulfilling in its execution. It was genuinely shocking to discover her parents had made a blind deal to bring her back to life.

We’re really on a roll here, Charmed Ones.

It may have taken a handful of episodes, but it seems Charmed has finally hit it’s stride, with Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 11 being the best episode yet.

The show has figured out what it was ultimately missing—focus. Now that the groundwork has been laid, Charmed is allowing itself to actually develop storylines that span across the season in cohesive ways, while also weaving them seamlessly into their monster-of-the-week theme.

When first realizing the show was reintroducing the weekly demon, I was hesitant. They had opted to focus solely on arcs which have spanned the entire season last episode, and it worked phenomenally. Would throwing another insignificant monster back into the plot ruin things?

I didn’t want the show to lose the pacing it just seemed to find. To get off track with conflicts that really have no stakes in the bigger picture would be devastating. Things were just ...

The midseason finale has finally come upon us!

Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 9 is all about going against the odds as Macy refuses to let destiny get in the way of her potential relationship with Galvin, and Mel seeks Harry’s guidance after learning information that leaves her questioning everything she knows.

After a few episodes of introducing us to the world and showing sisterhood at its finest, we have finally seen the trio facing each other in a fight. On Christmas Day!

Although the fight wasn’t technically Macy versus Maggie and Mel, it was still nice to see it play out visually.

The first few minutes were boring. There was more talking than action, and the conversation wasn't remarkable. It was just a simple chit-chat from characters to fill in the time.

Fortunately, once the action started, it was all we needed.

    Out of Scythe

The Power of Three really can’t catch a break when it comes to love, can they?

Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 7 threw one of the sisters for yet another heartbreaking loop: Maggie’s boyfriend is a demon.

Only a half demon, though. Which leads me to believe the show will be following in its predecessors' footsteps by recreating one of the best storylines OG Charmed ever attempted: The half-demon antagonist whose human side falls in love with a Charmed One.

In the original, that half-demon was Cole, played by powerhouse Julian MacMahon.

After his human side falls for youngest sister Phoebe, the sisters set out to help Cole rid himself of his father’s demonic blood. Throughout the course of multiple seasons, Cole manages to flip-flop from human to demon and back again, before ultimately ending up on the dark side, as the source of all evil.

He was eventually vanquished by the Power of Three, but it can be debated that Cha...
