Fall

Kim learned the hard way: when you burn the candle at both ends, sometimes you get hurt. Really hurt. On Better Call Saul Season 3 Episode 9, the characters continued their inexorable descent, but it's Kim who actually suffered real physical harm. Kim took the Gatwood Oil job only after seeing Jimmy revert to his old ways to get money for his share of expenses. I know she has a good heart and is looking to help Jimmy any way she can, but the reality check at ... more

Slip

As we've feared, Jimmy goes farther down the rabbit hole, and it doesn't look like he will be able to dig himself out. On Better Call Saul Season 3 Episode 8, all the main characters (with the exception of maybe Chuck) find themselves descending into the darkness, and the jury is out as to who will be able to make their way into the light again. I have to say I loved seeing Jimmy's old partner in crime Marco again, but this was tinged with sadness, considering how his st... more

Expenses

Things aren't looking too rosy for Kim and Jimmy, and it's only going to get worse. On Better Call Saul Season 3 Episode 7, the pressure is mounting on both sides.  For Jimmy, it's financial: however, Kim's pressure is purely emotional, and that's a huge problem. Kim can see what Jimmy's going through, but he refuses help from her.  We know they probably don't end up together, given the fact we never saw or heard about her in Breaking Bad. The how... more

'Better Call Saul' Review: As the Season Finale Draws Near, Jimmy's Future Only Looks Bleaker

In the opening sequence, Kim and Jimmy have fun pulling a scam on a clerk in Lubbock, Texas. However, that may be the episode’s highest point; from here, it’s a pretty grim installment when the temporary resolution of Jimmy McGill’s legal status as a lawyer doesn’t go to his benefit. The only thing more painful about the continuation of his suspension is the fight between him and Kim that follows; Jimmy may still have the option to appeal, but that doesn’t mean a happy solution is in store. To make matters worse, Werner makes a wor... more

'Better Call Saul': How Bob Odenkirk and the Cast Develop Their Characters, One Tiny Bit of Backstory At a Time

In the latest episode of “Better Call Saul,” viewers get an intense peek into the psyche of Gus (Giancarlo Esposito), as the character sat beside the bedside of nemesis Hector Salamanca and told a little story about the fruit tree he loved as a child, and the coati who tried to rob young Gus of its fruit. While it doesn’t offer up any specific biographic details, it’s a feast of a monologue which reveals quite a bit about who Gus is, and why we should be afraid of him. It&rsqu... more

'Better Call Saul' Review: 'Quite a Ride' Is a Captivating Tease of a Very Scary Future

In 2000s Albuquerque, Jimmy’s instincts for salesmanship have kicked in due to the boredom of working a legit job at the world’s most boring cell phone store. The gimmick he’s come up with – marketing burner “pay as you go” phones to folks who might want their “cash-based” businesses to fly under the radar – is a smart one, but the lack of foot traffic (and his innate restlessness) pushes him onto the streets to hock his wares…which goes well, until he gets mugged for his cash. So it&rsqu... more
