A huge piece of the Fentanyl Killer puzzle fell into place during Absentia Season 2 Episode 9 but it's clear there are still holes left in this mystery.

But Emily, Cal, and Nick won't stop until they fill in all of the blanks, especially since Flynn's future is on the line.

Getting access to the Catalyst Database allowed Emily and Cal to answer a lot of questions.

Unfortunately, uncovering that same information is what got Detective Tommy Gibbs killed.

As much as I hate that Tommy is dead, I am relieved that he didn't take his own life. Although he was obviously upset over the suspension and the status of he and Emily's relationship, I just didn't see him as being suicidal.

Finding out that Dr. Odewale was a part of this horrifying conspiracy shook Emily to the bone, not only because she trusted him ...

There was one shocking revelation after another on Absentia Season 2 Episode 8 but I was disappointed with a couple of secrets that remained hidden.

First, was that we still don't know for certain whether Tommy committed suicide or was murdered.

Second, Alice didn't come clean about her affair.

The heart to heart between Alice and Nick was a long time coming, and Nick took responsibility for emotionally disappearing on their family and did his best to explain why it happened.

I felt like a coward. I wanted to tell you that. I’m no hero. I ran from a…I ran away from our son when he was struggling because I didn’t know how to help him and then I ran away from you after the miscarriage because I was afraid to face the pain, honestly. We lost a child and I wasn’t there for you, for us.

I refuse to believe what I saw at the end of Absentia Season 2 Episode 7.

Even though it looked as though Detective Tommy Gibbs had committed suicide, I'm still not accepting it.

    But unfortunately, Emily probably will.

I know that Tommy was at a very low place in his life.

He had to break up with the woman he loved after she inexplicably beat the hell out of him and then he was suspended from the Boston Police Department.

Tommy may have believed that the only way he was of any use to Emily was to help her with this investigation, and without his badge and gun he was of no use at all.

So, on paper, Tommy killing himself makes sense.

But that doesn't mean I'm convinced.

    The people at Catalyst D...

While Emily was getting her footing back on the job, Nick's life felt like it was falling apart on Absentia Season 2 Episode 6.

Emily Byrne is horrible when it comes to personal relationships but when it comes to her job, she's a pro.

And going undercover in Moldova might be just the thing to get her mojo back.

Emily and Cal work exceptionally well together, even during the moments when they are quietly sniping at one another.

They've got cover stories, no back up, and only each other to rely on and that appears to work for them.

If I weren't hoping for a reconciliation between Emily and Tommy, I might just be shipping her and Cal.

But that would make Emily's life even more complicated, if that's even possible, and these two make ...

The terrorist case against Tyler Brandon Mills took a strange turn on Absentia Season 2 Episode 5, and as much as it was unexpected, that's not what left me shaking my head.

That's part of the fun of Absentia.

The investigations are absorbing and intriguing but it's the characters that continue to confound me.

Tyler Mills is one disturbed and scary guy.

He killed over one hundred people and not only does he show no remorse, he seems to have enjoyed doing it.

One hundred and twenty people. It filled me up. Let me go and I’ll give you an encore.

I didn't think it was possible but Absentia Season 2 Episode 4 went to an even darker place.

Yet, oddly enough, my sense of dread had nothing to do the Fentanyl Killer claiming two more victims.

That churning in the pit of my stomach was caused by Tyler the terrorist stalking a child and Emily Byrne.

When that little girl began to wander down the path in the woods, I knew some horrible fate was awaiting her and waiting for it to happen was the worst kind of anticipation.

It seemed obvious that the father was packing up the car to leave, so there was no reason for Tyler to kill him. He only had to wait a few more minutes and the man and his child would have been gone.

Emily Byrne is a professional at compartamentalizing and that was on full display on Absentia Season 2 Episode 3.

She had just found out that her biological mother was still alive, only to lose her again after kicking the woman out of her home.

That set of circumstances would have left most people curled up in the fetal position and in tears.

But Emily Byrne is not most people.

Undoubtedly, she will have to deal with the emotional fallout of this loss at some point.

She'd turned her back on her biological mother, didn't believe the woman's story, practically told her she was crazy, and then left her unprotected.

Emily Byrnes life is never dull and Absentia Season 2 Episode 2 was no exception.

But when Emily began digging deeper into the history of Barrett House, the one person I never expected to pop up was her supposedly dead biological mother.

That is, if Valerie really is Emily's mother.

Admittedly, Valerie's story makes some sense, at least the part where her baby was handed over to the State because she got sent to prison.

What's more questionable is why anyone would be interested in Valerie, never mind secretly drugging her and following her.

I hope that Emily's experience with obtaining Valerie's medical records wasn't commonplace because that's just terrifying, although I've seen more computers than not with the password on a stick...

    Casualties

When last we saw Emily Byrne, she was at a party having a panic attack on the kitchen floor.

Turns out, not a whole heck of a lot has changed as we get to Absentia Season 2 Episode 1, or perhaps it's gotten worse.

Emily looked too thin and haggard for someone who should be focusing on her recovery.

Someone get that woman a spa day!

Water is still a trigger for Emily, and it wouldn't surprise me if she never took a bath again for the rest of her life!

But Emily is convinced that there is still someone out there connected to the horrors of Barrett House and that someone may be lurking in the dark and following her.

After nine installments of twists, turns, ups, downs, shocks and thrills that had those around me shooting me strange looks because they heard me gasping at my screen, it's finally time to for Absentia Season 1 Episode 10!

Oh, what a ride it's been.

It would be difficult to hyperbolize Stana Katic's stunning performance as Emily Byrne.

Katic carries this series and somehow manages to humanize Emily's relentless persistence and strength by balancing it with a unique vulnerability that makes us care for Emily without ever making her appear weak.

Even when the evidence was stacking up against her and she took action I didn't always agree with, like kidnapping Adam Radford, I still couldn't help but root for Emily Byrne.

That continued through to the end of the Absentia season 1 finale.

Of course, that's not to say that there weren't some subtle flaws in the story, such as, how would young Emily even know what ...
