TNT Renews 'Librarians' and 'Major Crimes,' Cancels 3 Dramas

TNT is settling up on all of its current shows before the new year begins, renewing a pair of scripted programs for new seasons while cancelling three other shows.

Major Crimes, the Closer spin-off starring Mary McDonnell, has been renewed for a 10-episode fifth season. While that's shorter that previous seasons, the news is much better for The Librarians. The magical dramedy which will end its second season on Sunday, December 27 has been renewed for season 3, but this time with 15 new episodes. Thee two previous seasons had just 10 episodes each.

But it's bad news for Sean Bean's Legends and the freshmen dramas Agent X and Public Morals. All three shows were cancelled. Public Morals, a period drama starring Ed Burns, ended its first and only season in October. Agent X, starring Sharon Stone, will conclude its freshman season on December 27 while the Legends season 2 finale (now the series finale) airs Monday, December 28.

The Librarians
and Major Crimes join a trio of other TNT dramas that were previously renewed for new seasons in 2016: Rizzoli and Isles, The Last Ship and Murder in the First. Meanwhile, the trio of cancellations joins three other scripted shows that ended their TNT runs in 2015: Falling Skies, Perception and Proof. However, the network does have several new shows slated to debut, including Ellen Barkin's Animal Kingdom.

The Librarians
and Agent X air Sundays at 8pm and 9pm while Major Crimes and Legends air Mondays at 9pm and 10pm, all on TNT.
