Starz Grants Series Order to Ballet Drama 'Flesh and Bone'

Fresh off of the Saturday premiere of its original pirate drama 'Black Sails,' premium cable network Starz has just granted a series order to 'Flesh And Bone,' a drama set in the world of ballet.

Created by Moira Walley-Beckett (writer of such epic 'Breaking Bad' episodes as "Gliding Over All" and "Ozymandias"), 'Flesh And Bone' follows Claire, an up-and-coming ballet dancer who has just joined a prestigious dance company in New York City as the series begins. 'Flesh And Bone' s mission statement is to provide a gritty, unvarnished look inside the sometimes glamorous, sometimes cutthroat world of high level professional ballet.

Critical comparisons to the Oscar-nominated 2010 Darren Aronofsky film 'Black Swan' are almost inevitable, especially when you consider that star Sarah Hay actually appeared in that movie.Hay was one of thousands of real life dancers that auditioned for the role of Claire during a nationwide talent search, and I don't doubt that her brief turn in 'Swan' was a contributing factor to her ultimately getting the part. The difference here seems to be that 'Flesh And Bone' will be more of a straight drama, and forgo the often mind-bending insanity present in Aronofsky's opus.

Production on 'Flesh And Bone' is set to begin within the next few months, with the show being eyed for a 2015 premiere. Other upcoming Starz originals include 'Outlander' (based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon), and Brooklyn set crime drama 'Power' , both of which are set to debut later in 2014.
