With filming underway on the fifth series of BBC One and Red Planet Pictures’ hit crime drama, Death in Paradise, it has been announced today that the talented array of guest stars in the upcoming series will include Paul Nicholls (The C Word), Emma Rigby (Once Upon A Time) and Heida Reed (Poldark).

Filmed on the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, the much-loved winter warmer has gone from strength to strength over the past four series, pulling in an average consolidated figure of almost 9 million viewers to cement its position as one of BBC One’s highest rating dramas.

Other guest stars heading to paradise to star in the new series include Julien Ovenden (Downton Abbey), Neve McIntosh (Doctor Who), Lloyd Owen (The Originals), Nigel Lindsay (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa), Hannah Britland (Fresh Meat), Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones) and Lucy Cohu (Broadchurch).

Commenting on his role in the series, Paul Nicholls said: “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with the fantastic cast and crew on the upcoming series of Death In Paradise. I play a fashion photographer in my episode which is very different from many of my previous roles so was a great challenge. Filming in Guadeloupe was incredible too. We had so much fun!”

The hotly anticipated fifth series sees the return of Saint Marie’s crime-fighting police team, who must use their expert skills of deduction to solve the mysterious and mind-boggling murders that occur on the island.

Love is in the air this series as endearingly clumsy yet brilliant DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) takes on the brave new world of dating, whilst Officer JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare) is reunited with a blast from the past. Could there be wedding bells on the Saint Marie horizon?

Meanwhile, the team are shocked when JP reveals that he can’t swim, despite living on an island! With mentor, Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) insisting that he has to be the ‘complete package’ to be a Police Officer, savvy DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) takes him under her wing to give him some lessons.

Tim Key, Executive Producer of Death In Paradise said: “We are thrilled to be back in Guadeloupe for the fifth series of Death In Paradise and delighted to have such great talent involved in the show. The new series promises more twists, romances and shocks for viewers with some of our most ambitious stories yet. From deep-sea divers who get in over their heads to political scandals with deadly consequences, there’s something for everyone.”

Liz Kilgarriff, BBC Independent Drama Commissioner added: “BBC One hit Death In Paradise has the most fantastic audience and it is no wonder it brings in such huge ratings each week. The series provides the perfect combination of drama, comedy and sunshine during the cold and wet winter months that keeps viewers avidly watching”

Death In Paradise is a Red Planet Pictures production in association with BBC Worldwide, produced with the support of the region of Guadeloupe. It is created by Robert Thorogood, produced by Yvonne Francas and executive produced by Tony Jordan and Tim Key for Red Planet Pictures and BBC Independent Drama Commissioner, Liz Kilgarriff for BBC One. The new series will air in early 2016.
