Is Isobel the Key to the Cure on 'iZombie'?

For the first time ever on iZombie, Liv was unable to turn a human into a zombie. The smuggled terminally ill girl, Isobel, received two scratches and nothing happened. Nobody knows why, but it looks like she's immune to the zombie virus. Now the question is whether she's the key to the cure, the one thing Ravi has been working on from the very beginning. If she is the key, will she work with Ravi and Liv to create a cure for others?

Is She Definitely Immune?

Before delving further into this theory, is it really Isobel who is immune? It's possible that there's something wrong with Liv. Do zombies lose the ability to turn others eventually or has Liv done something that means she can no longer turn people?

That's unlikely. We've seen no evidence to support the idea that zombies eventually can't turn others. There are high chances that Isobel is somehow immune.

Isobel may not be naturally immune. This could be linked to her terminal illness. Right now, the illness could be acting as a vaccine, with the side effect of death. Nobody would ever consider allowing that to happen.

Will She Allow Herself to Be Tested On?

Ravi (once he learns the truth about Liv being Renegade) will need to test Isobel's blood on iZombie. He'll need to understand why she is immune first to know if it's her or the illness. From there, she can look at how to make a vaccine or cure. Before any of that is possible, Isobel will need to consent to be tested on and right now she's probably not too impressed with that idea.

Isobel has come to be turned so she won't die. She risked her life to cross the wall for something that she isn't getting. Because Liv can't do anything for her, Isobel may decide not to help at all. It's hard to tell from the brief hint of her personality so far.

Isobel continues to remain a threat in Seattle. Not only has she been smuggled in and there will be no record of treating her for her illness in Seattle, but she is at risk of capture by Fillmore-Graves. It's possible that she will be tested on by them, as Chase Graves realizes there's a huge problem with all the zombies being walled in Seattle and not enough brains. She may want to escape Seattle now if she knows she can't be turned.

Could It Just Be a Vaccine?

Isobel's immunity may not create a cure. However, it could help to create a vaccine. This won't be something Fillmore-Graves will want to get out, but it could be positive for the rest of the country. Liv and her friends could get the word out to those on the outside to help take the wall down or at least ease some of the movement in and out of the country.

Of course, Fillmore-Graves wants to build on the zombie population. Knowing Isobel (and others like her) is out there could make her a direct threat to their society.

It's now all a case of time. Isobel's immunity certainly offers some hope. There's a chance to stop the zombie epidemic growing. Isobel could certainly be the key to a cure, as long as she's willing to help.

iZombie Season 4 airs Mondays at 9/8c on The CW.
