HBO Renews 'Westworld' for Season 2

Just like with Deadwood, the Old West has scored for HBO. The network announced that its ambitious drama series Westworld has been renewed for season 2. In addition, half-hour comedies Divorce and Insecure have also been picked up for second seasons.

Westworld, about a vacation destination where people can relive the days of the Old West alongside realistic robots, is a big swing for HBO and it seems to have paid off. On the same day that it was renewed for a second season, it also received three Critics Choice Award nominations.

It's also important for HBO to have a new drama since HBO is severely lacking in that department. The Leftovers is coming up on its final season, Game of Thrones is nearing its end and True Detective is currently in limbo. And those are HBO's only three other existing dramas.

The news is much better for the network's half-hour line-up, as Divorce and Insecure join shows like Veep, Silicon Valley, Girls, Ballers and even Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Westworld premiered with nearly 2 million viewers, which isn't so bad when you consider the fact that it's more than the series premiere of The Leftovers and just slightly under where Game of Thrones started.

Westworld airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO, followed by Divorce and Insecure. The first season of Westworld will end on December 4.
