'Fringe' Star John Noble Joins 'Elementary' as New Series Regular

The father of Sherlock Holmes is about to become very involved in his son's life. Fringe and Sleepy Hollow star John Noble has joined the cast of the CBS drama Elementary, playing Sherlock's wealthy and mysterious father. And it won't be a quick visit as Noble is coming aboard as a series regular.

Noble will first appear in the season 4 premiere when Mr. Holmes comes to New York City to deal with his son's latest drug relapse. Sherlock's dad has been a mysterious, looming presence from the start of the series, being responsible for hiring Joan Watson to treat his son.
This past season, Noble was a series regular on FOX's Sleepy Hollow, though his character was killed off. He's best known for playing Walter Bishop, the confused scientist from Fringe.

The new bit of casting is a big deal for Elementary since, for the first three seasons, the show only featured four series regular: Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock, Lucy Liu as Joan, Aidan Quinn as Captain Gregson and Jon Michael Hill as Detective Bell. It's one of the smallest main casts on all of television.

Elementary will returns Thursdays at 10pm on CBS this fall following the end of Thursday Night Football.
