Bradley Whitford's credits in film, television and theater include workwith some of the most noted writers, directors and playwrights in thearts, and constitute a career worthy of a Juilliard-trained actor --which he is. But stardom is something else altogether, and it remainedelusive, at least until 1999 and his appearance on NBC's acclaimedpolitical drama, _"The West Wing" (1999)_ (qv).Growing up in Wisconsin, Whitford spent his youth at a decidedly slowerpace. He went on to study theater and English literature at Wes leyanUniversity and earned a master's degree in theater from the prestigiousJuilliard Theater Center. Whitford's first professional performance wasin the off-Broadway production of "Curse of the Starving Glass," with'Kathy Bates' (qv). Ironically, he also starred in the Broadwayproduction of "The West Wing" and in creator 'Aaron Sorkin' (qv)'s "AFew Good Men." His additional theater credits include "Three Days ofRain" at the Manhattan Theatre Club, "Measure for Measure" at theLincoln Center, and the title role in "Coriolanus" at the FolgerShakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.Some of Whitford's most memorable performances include roles in suchfilms as _The Muse (1999)_ (qv) with 'Albert Brooks (I)' (qv) and_Bicentennial Man (1999)_ (qv) with 'Robin Williams (I)' (qv). He hasalso appeared in _Scent of a Woman (1992)_ (qv),_A Perfect World (1993)_ (qv), _Philadelphia (1993)_ (qv),_The Client (1994)_ (qv), _My Life (1993)_ (qv),_Red Corner (1997)_ (qv), _Presumed Innocent (1990)_ (qv) and_My Fellow Americans (1996)_ (qv).Whitford lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress'Jane Kaczmarek' (qv) (_"Malcolm in the Middle" (2000)_ (qv)) and theirchildren, Frances, George, and Mary. NBC's Perfect Harmony: Grade It!

Like the song engraved on the headstone of Bradley Whitford‘s character’s wife, the new NBC comedy Perfect Harmony is a “fun little ditty about a man who loses his only family and has no reason to live.” That man, former Princeton University music professor Arthur Cochran (Whitford), is literally moments away from suicide in Thursday’s series premiere when he’s mercifully distracted by the out-of-tune squawking of a ... more

TV Review: 'Perfect Harmony' Starring Bradley Whitford

With fewer than 25 minutes to introduce a compelling story and cast of characters, the makers of broadcast-network comedy pilots have one of the hardest jobs in television. It’s no wonder, then, that so many turn to familiar shortcuts and archetypes in order to get through all the necessary exposition as quickly as possible. The trick is finding ways to intrigue beyond the basics and show some hint of unique personality, besides. “Perfect Harmony,” NBC’s new comedy about a scrappy church choir entering the competitive ... more

Aaron Sorkin Wants Sterling K. Brown to Be President

It's been 11 years since The West Wing concluded its seven-season run but it seems that there's hope for a revival of the award-winning drama, especially considering today's political scene. Series creator Aaron Sorkin, who remains open about the reboot, even revealed his dream cast, which included This Is Us actor Sterling K. Brown as president. "Sterling K. Brown as the president, and th... more

ABC Renews 'DWTS,' Cancels 'Trophy Wife' and More Comedies

Following a flurry of good news Thursday night for ABC shows, renewing 10 of them and ordering nine new series, Friday was time to drop the hammer. The network has cancelled three of its young comedies, but it also renewed its long-running reality hit. Dancing with the Stars was officially renewed for season 19 in the fall, which is no big surprise. It may not be the ratings giant it once was, but it still brings in solid viewers. It was bad news, however, for a trio of comedies. Freshman sitcom... more
