Tyra Banks Replaces Nick Cannon as Host of 'America's Got Talent'

Tyra Banks may have moved on from hosting  America's Next Top Model, but she's now got a huge new gig lined up to add to her ever-expanding resume. NBC has announced that the model, actress, producer and businesswoman is joining America's Got Talent as its new host for season 12.

She is replacing long-time host Nick Cannon, who quit the reality competition series in February after a joke in his Showtime stand-up special displeased the network.

In a statement, Tyra said, "Since I was a little girl, I've been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible. I love how AGT brings that feeling into everyone's home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true. I look forward to connecting with the dreamers, having fun and giving hugs and words of encouragement when needed. And maybe I'll get one or two performers to smize for the audience!"

AGT creator and judge Simon Cowell said, "Welcome to the America's Got Talent family, Tyra! This is really exciting."

And NBC's President of Alternative and Reality Group added, "Tyra is the complete package: out-of-this-world talented, funny, brilliant and all heart. In whatever she has done, she has always connected with audiences around the world. Her vivacious spirit will infuse AGT in a big way."

Tyra was first signed to a modeling agency at the age of 15. She has gone on to create America's Next Top Model (which just wrapped its 23rd season), host an award-winning talk show and become the CEO of her own company. Just because she's been super successful doesn't mean she's left education behind, though. In 2012, she graduated from Harvard Business School.

NBC is bringing Tyra back into the fold after hiring her as an adviser for the revamped  Celebrity Apprentice, hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who just departed that show after only one season.

Joining her for season 12 of America's Got Talent are returning judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.

Tyra is the fourth person to host AGT. Talk show legend Regis Philbin was part of the original crew but only stayed for one season. Then Jerry Springer took over for two seasons. And Nick Cannon has been there the longest, having hosted for eight seasons. Now it's time for AGT's first-ever female host.

America's Got Talent season 12 will air in summer 2017 on NBC.
