FOX Picks up 'Lethal Weapon' for a Non-Traditional Full Season
FOX has given one of its first full season orders to a new series. The series that gets the honor might surprise you, though. FOX has ordered five additional episodes of the movie reboot series Lethal Weapon. This brings Lethal Weapon up to 18 episodes and gives it a full season order.
Lethal Weapon is not the only new series for FOX this fall. It's not even its only new series that is based on an existing film franchise, as The Exorcist also airs on FOX. Lethal Weapon is, however, the first new series that FOX is giving a full season order and that basically makes it a shoe-in for a renewal.
At 18 episodes now, Lethal Weapon is a little bit short of a traditional full season but that shouldn't be much cause for concern. FOX typically only has two hours of primetime programming each day and as mentioned earlier, Lethal Weapon is not the only show that has rolled out (or will be rolling out) in 2016-2017 for the network.
FOX is clearly very happy with Lethal Weapon's performance though. It was the highest rated fall premiere for the network in two years and is on par with returning show Rosewood's performance. Lethal Weapon is also the third highest rated new show of the season, tied with Bull on CBS.
David Madden, president of FOX Entertainment, said of the renewal, " Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart. Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for Empire. We are thrilled to add these episodes to Lethal Weapon's first season."
But what do you think? Are you excited to learn that more Lethal Weapon is on the way? Have you been watching the reboot series? How do you think it compares to the movies?
Lethal Weapon airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on FOX.
