Casting Bits: Peter Gadiot to Appear on 'Supergirl,' Keith David Heads to 'The Flash,' Plus Details About the Musical Crossover
It sounds like Kara Danvers and Barry Allen will both have a tough season ahead as they deal with more enemies on Supergirl and The Flash. During the Television Critics Association winter press tour, several villain casting announcements were revealed, including Mr. Mxyzptlk, Solovar, the Music Meister and the return of the Black Flash.
Peter Gadiot as Mr. Mxyzptlk
Peter Gadiot, who played Cyrus on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, has been cast as Mr. Mxyzptlk on Supergirl. TV Line reports that Gadiot will be making his debut on the CW series in episode 13. According to Canadagraphs' Twitter feed, he was already spotted filming with Melissa Benoist. In DC Comics lore, Mr. Mxyzptlk is an impish trickster from the 5th Dimension who enjoys tormenting Superman and who can be "sent home" only by tricking him into saying or spelling his own name backwards.
The Return of the Black Flash
According to The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, season 2 antagonist Zoom will resurface as the Black Flash, also known as the Grim Reaper in the DC Comics. "He's a classic character, and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return," said Kreisberg, who also teased that Black Flash will return in a major way on multiple CW superhero shows. "There's something so scary about him, even scarier than when he was just a man, because now he is the Grim Reaper, he is like the Devil. How do you stop the Devil? It presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears."
It's uncertain, however, if actor Teddy Sears, who originally played Zoom, will be reprising the character since he's busy filming Fox's 24: Legacy, where he plays Keith Mullins.
Keith David to Voice Solovar
Keith David will be lending his voice to Solovar, the progressive leader of Gorilla City, when The Flash puts the spotlight on an upcoming Grodd story, which branches over episodes 13 and 14. "One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2]," Kreisberg said at the press tour, "and one of them will take place on Earth-1." In the comics, Solovar is known for his wisdom and psychic powers. David most recently appeared as Bishop James Greenleaf on Greenleaf. He also provided the voice of Adventure Time's Flame King and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland's Cheshire Cat.
The Music Meister
The highly anticipated musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash will aptly feature the Music Meister, a villain who has mind control powers as well as several music-based weapons, and who first appeared in the animated Batman series Batman: The Brave and the Bold. "We're finishing the script this weekend," teased executive producer Greg Berlanti, adding that the show has not yet started casting for the part.
