Casting Bits: Jimmy Kimmel Hosting 2018 Oscars, George Newbern Promoted on 'Scandal' and More

In this casting news roundup, some Scandal and Nashville cast members are getting promoted to series regulars, and both Beckys from Roseanne are joining the ABC revival -- but how is that going to work? Also, get ready for some guest sharks to join Shark Tank next season, and someone is leaving Doctor Who.

Plus, ABC has announced the host for the 2018 Oscars. Find out all the details below.

Jimmy Kimmel Hosting 2018 Oscars

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the 2018 Oscars, a year after he first hosted . The most talked-about moment from the 2017 awards ceremony was the Best Picture mishap when La La Land was announced as the winner and then rescinded because the wrong envelope was opened; Moonlight ended up winning.

In a statement, Kimmel said, "Hosting the Oscars was a highlight of my career ... If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!"

There's no doubt that Kimmel will address that mishap when he hosts again on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

George Newbern Promoted on Scandal

George Newbern has appeared in almost 50 episodes of Scandal as Charlie, going back to season 1 but only in a recurring role. That's all about to change as the actor has been promoted to a series regular for the seventh season of the Shonda Rhimes drama, according to TVLine.

It was recently announced that Scandal is coming to an end after season 7.

Roseanne Revival: Both Becky Actresses to Appear

Roseanne, the hit '90s sitcom, is being revived on ABC with original cast members like Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and Michal Fishman.

But what about Becky? Two actresses played that character during the show's run. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the original Becky, Lecy Goranson, will step back into that role for the reboot. As for Sarah Chalke, who played Becky starting in season 6, she'll be on the show as well but in a different role that's not known at this time.

Shark Tank Guests Include Bethenny Frankel and Alex Rodriguez

ABC's Shark Tank has brought on guest sharks before, but the show is reeling in quite a few for season 9. The Real Housewives of New York's Bethenny Frankel will be one of the guest sharks, as she confirmed on Twitter.

Other guests, notes USA Today, include athlete Alex Rodriguez, Virgin Atlantic's Richard Branson, Spanx founder Sara Blakely, Vitaminwater and Smartwater co-founder Rohan Oza.

Michelle Gomez Leaving Doctor Who

If you're a fan of Missy on Doctor Who, then here's some disappointing news: Michelle Gomez, who first played Missy in 2014, is leaving the series along with Peter Capaldi and writer Steven Moffat.

The actress told Radio Times, "My pals are going, so I'm going. Everything's leaving, so I'm going too. What would I do without Peter and Steven? Who would I be? Nah, it's done now. It's over. It's the end of a chapter."

Nashville: Cameron Scoggins Promoted, Odessa Adlon Joins Cast

When Nashville returns for the back half of season 5 on Thursday, June 1, Cameron Scoggins will be a series regular. The actor plays Zach, a billionaire who is beginning a relationship with Will.

But this isn't the only casting news for the CMT drama. Odessa Adlon has signed on as a teenage runaway named Liv. Deadline describes her as "tough but vulnerable," and she has left a "bad situation to live on the streets among a loose collection of other runaway teens." This will be a recurring role for Adlon.
