Casting Bits: 'Grey's Anatomy' Star Joins New HBO Show, Jim Beaver on 'Timeless' and More

It's a new year full of new casting bits, and we are here to give you the scoop on all of them.

Alexis Bledel scores a significant role on Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale and Supernatural's Jim Beaver joins the cast of Timeless. Meanwhile, 24: Legacy and Crazy Ex Girlfriend announce new hires and HBO's upcoming untitled Alan Ball series names some additional stars.

Alexis Bledel Cast in The Handmaid's Tale

Rory Gilmore is not in Stars Hollow anymore. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls fame will be joining Elizabeth Moss in Hulu's upcoming adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Bledel will be playing Ofglen, a key confidant to Moss's Offred who may be a little more rebellious than she initially lets on.

Jim Beaver Joins the NSA for Timeless

TV Line reports that Jim Beaver will join Timeless for the final three episodes of season 1 as "NSA Agent Neville," who, according to series creator Eric Kripke, is "harboring a dark secret." This will not be the first time Beaver and Kripke have worked together; the two have worked together previously on both Supernatural and Revolution.

24: Legacy Snags This Is Us Star

Gerald McRaney has joined the cast of the upcoming 24: Legacy, according to TV Line. McRaney, who was most recently on NBC's This Is Us, will be playing father to presidential candidate Senator John Donovan, played by Jimmy Smits. It's not yet known whether or not McRaney will have any sort of inspiring lemonade-related anecdotes for his new TV son.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend Gets A New Greek Guy

Greek alum Scott Michael Foster is set to join Crazy Ex Girlfriend as a new potential love interest for the titular ex. According to TV Line, Foster will be playing Nathaniel, a no-nonsense guy who essentially becomes Rebecca's new boss after his father buys into Whitefeather & Associates. With Greg gone and Josh off with his new lady, it seems like prime time for a new man in Rebecca's world.

HBO's New Alan Ball Project Lands Four New Stars

Looks like Grey Sloan Memorial might be losing yet another doctor. Deadline reports that Jerrika Hinton (of Grey's Anatomy fame), along with Sosie Bacon, Daniel Zovatto and Raymond Lee, was just announced to be joining the Alan Ball's latest project for HBO. It is still unclear what will happen to Hinton's character on Grey's, but if previous actor exits are any indication, it might be best to brace for deadly impact.
